Dance Week 4
This week the group that presented did a great job and I loved their activity. They split the class into 4 groups and assigned an element to each group as well as four related words. For example, I was in the Fire group and our four words were crackling, sparking, flaming and melting. We then had to develop a series of movements using the ABA format to represent fire and our four words. This is also a great cross-curricular activity in terms of FNMI, social studies, or even science (the elements).
The dance element that we focused on today were time and force.
We also focused on Choreographic Form in terms of themes such as Canon, A choreographic form in which a dance phrase is performed by more than one soloist or group and begins at different times so that the phrases overlap, and Narrative, A choreographic form that follows a storyline, often conveys a specific message, and usually includes an introduction, rising action, a climax, and a resolution.
We used these choreographic forms to create dances based on aboriginal cosmogony stories about turtle island, Canada before the europeans came. This was cross-curricular as it relates to Grade 4 social studies.
The curriculum element that we focused on today was the Critical Analysis Process.
The theory that we looked at today was Bloom's Taxonomy.
